Man in court for stealing from police officer

BULAWAYO: A man has been dragged to court for stealing a cell phone worth $360 from a police officer who is currently stationed at Bulawayo Central.

Benedict Ngwenya (26) pleaded guilty to the charges when he appeared before Bulawayo magistrate Maryline Muchina on thief as defined in Section113 of the Criminal Law Codification and Reform Act chapter 9:23.

Public prosecutor Raymond Machaza alleges that, on the 21st of March 2015 at around 0352hrs Hyssein Maman (33) was at Large City Hall corner Fife Street and 8 avenue, whilst attending a show.

Ngwenya approached the man and searched his phone which was in his pocket from behind.

Maman tried to grab Ngwenya’s hand but he managed to escape and he was pursued and then Ngwenya threw the phone to his colleague who fled from the scene with the phone and is still at large.

Ngwenya was then arrested and he is out of custody, he will be remanded on the 14th of May 2015.
